We’re firm believers at MuscleSquad that it’s essential to be a domain expert in your field to develop the best products. It’s those small changes we make to a squat rack or functional trainer that come from years of training and embedding ourselves in the fitness industry — not to mention being able to help our customers with exercising safely, proper form and avoiding the risk of injury.
In our fitness expert series, we’re introducing some of the people that embody this part of our company.
Elliot — Content Marketer & PT
Elliot is our in-house personal trainer, content marketer and leads an unannounced project we’re working on. He’s a diligent bodybuilder, having placed first in the heavyweight category at BNBF Midlands and second in the BNBF Finals. Elliot is the one who makes sure all of our content, videos and emails are accurate, and possesses one of the smoothest radio voices you’ll ever hear.
What’s your role at MuscleSquad?
“I spend a lot of time at the moment working on an announced project, so there’s not much I can speak about I’m afraid! Where you’ll mainly see me is in our workout videos, which I shoot here in our showroom, and in the advice and content we put out across the brand.”
What got you into training?
”I’ve always been active, but decided to give the gym a go when I was at university. Nowadays I enjoy training in bodybuilding or powerlifting gyms the most — I find them to be so much more welcoming than commercial gyms with a real community feel.”
What’s something you wish you knew when you started?
“The sooner you invest in a coach, the quicker you’ll progress. Someone to keep you on track with your training, eating and lifestyle helps so much.”
Home gyms or commercial gyms?
“Like I mentioned earlier I enjoy training in bodybuilding or powerlifting gyms the most, but I’m not too fussy. If there’s weights and a bar (especially the bar!) then I can get a session in. I’d like a home gym, but right now I just don’t have the space to build the type of setup I’d want.”
What’s your favourite exercise?
“It’s got to be deadlifts for me. It really gives me a boost after I finish a set of deadlifts. I don’t know what it is, it’s just kind of a rush since it’s such a powerful movement that relies upon your whole body.”
What’s an underrated exercise that more people should do?
“I think Romanian deadlifts would really contribute to a lot of people’s fitness goals, but for some reason it’s neglected. Maybe it’s because it’s a tough and physically-exerting exercise, but if you want to grow your legs and glutes—which a lot of my clients do—then RDLs will sort you right out.”
What’s your favourite thing about training?
“That I’m in control of my own progress. It’s also an opportunity to do something hard, which I think most people should strive for!”
Who’s your fitness idol?
“I don’t really have one. I prefer to focus on my own training.”
What do you enjoy doing outside of training?
“I spend most of my time helping my clients with their bodybuilding goals and producing fitness content. I really enjoy documenting my journey. I also love music and play the bass guitar, though you definitely won’t see me uploading that anytime soon…”
If you could only use one piece of fitness equipment for the rest of your life, what would it be?
“A barbell. I’m a firm believer that people could reach their physical goals with just a barbell.”
