Barbells, Weight Bars & Barbell Sets

A barbell is the foundation of powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting and compound lifts. We sell a number of standard barbells and speciality bars to cover all types of training.

What you should know about barbells

Barbells are a staple for building strength, and we have options to suit different exercises and training styles. Standard men’s Olympic bars weigh 20kg, while women’s Olympic bars weigh 15kg and have a slightly slimmer grip.

For isolation work, an EZ curl bar is ideal for biceps and triceps, while a trap bar is great for deadlifts and carries.

Look through our FAQs below to choose the right barbell, or contact our team for advice.

FAQ

01

Which types of barbells do you sell?

We sell Olympic, EZ curl, Super Curl, Swiss and Trap bars, covering both general strength training and specialist exercises.

02

Which barbell size should I choose?

Choose a barbell that fits your space and equipment. A 7ft bar suits most setups, while a 6ft International bar can suit smaller rooms while still fitting our racks.

03

Which barbell is best for a home gym?

Our Phase 1 7ft Olympic Barbell is ideal for home gyms. It weighs 20kg and holds 300kg, which is more than enough for most lifters.

04

What is knurling on a barbell?

Knurling is the rough, textured pattern on the bar’s handle that provides grip when you’re lifting.

05

What is a power bar?

A power bar bends less under load and has advanced knurling for a more secure grip, making it well suited for heavy compound lifts. Our Phase 3 7ft Power Bar weighs 20kg and has a 680kg max load.

06

What does a 7ft Olympic bar weigh?

A typical 7ft Olympic barbell weighs 20kg.

07

What do your 6ft barbells weigh?

A standard 6ft barbell weighs 15kg.

08

What does your EZ curl bar weigh?

Our Phase 1 EZ Curl Bar weighs 10kg. This is pretty standard across manufacturers, though you can usually confirm it on the bar’s end caps.

09

What does your Swiss Bar weigh?

Our Swiss Bar weighs 20kg. This is pretty standard across manufacturers, though you can usually confirm it on the bar’s end caps.

10

What does your Trap Bar weigh?

Our Open Trap Bar weighs 32kg. This is a heavier construction than some manufacturers, so it’s worth confirming the weight of a bar by checking its end caps before purchasing.

11

How much weight can your barbells hold?

Our barbells have a max load ranging from 150kg to 700kg. You can find the max load for each bar on its product page.

12

Which plates should I choose?

Bumper plates suit deadlifts, while tri-grip plates suit general strength training. Our Olympic barbells require plates with a 2-inch hole size.

13

Can I buy a barbell and plates together?

Yes, we sell barbell sets combining a bar with weight plates. You can find them on our weight plates page.

14

Do I need collars for my barbell?

Yes, it’s strongly advised. Barbell collars hold your plates in place so they don’t slide about when training. We sell three types of collar clips:

15

Which exercises can I do using a barbell?

Barbells are best for compound lifts like bench press, deadlifts, overhead press, bent-over rows and Romanian deadlifts.

16

Can I drop a barbell?

Yes, but only when it’s loaded with bumper plates and you’re on proper gym flooring. The bumper plates absorb the impact, while dropping a bar on its own can damage it and void the warranty.

17

How should I store a barbell?

Use a freestanding barbell holder to keep your bar secure. If you have the ceiling height for it, several of our racks include a barbell hook, and we also sell wall-mounted barbell holders.

18

How do I maintain my barbell?

Keep your barbell indoors in a dry, temperature-controlled space and wipe away moisture after use. Follow its care instructions and avoid spraying chemical cleaners directly onto it.

19

What’s the warranty on your barbells?

Our barbells include a one-year warranty covering manufacturing defects, subject to the warranty terms. Misuse, improper storage and normal wear and tear are excluded.

20

Do you offer free delivery?

Yes, orders over £250 qualify for free standard delivery to eligible mainland UK addresses. Regional exclusions and additional charges apply.
