We’re always looking for ways to improve our product offering, and we think we’ve done a cracking job with the reimagining of our Phase 3 lineup.
With smooth-as-silk cable systems, integrated smith machines and even options when it comes to the height of the rack (!), there’s a lot to like about the new and updated Phase 3. Let us give you a tour.
About Phase 3
To give you some context, we’ve always intended for Phase 3 to sit in that space between a basic home gym product and a commercial rack. Phase 2 does a brilliant job of providing the essentials that someone would need to train heavy at home, but they aren’t all-in-one solutions. On the other end of the scale, our Phase 4 range is an absolute juggernaut for performance and comfortably one of the best squat systems in the country, but that bleeds through into the price.
So we needed a middle ground. Enter, Phase 3. Our newest set of racks in this product line are a breakthrough in design and value, bringing the expertise we’ve learned about cable setups with a build quality that belongs in the most serious of home gyms.
Here’s what’s new in the range.

The short rack: you asked, we listened
The benefit of being a smaller company is that our whole team is connected to customer feedback. We take everything that is said to us on board and use it to create the best home gym products on the market.
It’s this feedback loop that led us to developing a short rack. One of the most common obstacles that customers run into when designing a home gym is ceiling height. Traditional squat racks are tall — they have to be in order to serve their purpose, but there’s still a whole load of functionality you can cram into a smaller machine so that people who couldn’t previously consider an all-in-one system for their home now have the option to.
Our Phase 3 Short Rack is 300mm shorter than the full-sized version we sell alongside it. Despite this, it still has the dual cable ratios, 2 x 90kg weight stacks (reduced from 100kg in the taller version) and all the attachments you need to perform rows, lat pulldowns, dual cable movements and so much more. If you’ve found yourself measuring your space in the past only to find the ceiling height restrictive, then know that we made this rack especially for you.
Lifters up to around 6”2 can train comfortably on this rack. Speaking personally as the blog author, I’m 6”3 and train without issue on the short rack. Watch the video below where I’ve given it the comprehensive tall-person test.
There’s no denying that a tall rack is still more practical all things considered, but when ceiling height is a barrier that can’t be removed this is an exceptional work-around.
Lift heavy and smooth with dual cable ratios
Both the full-sized Phase 3 Rack and its cousin the ‘Shorty’ come equipped with a fixed 1:1 cable pulley on the top uprights along with adjustable 2:1 pulleys, unlocking the benefits of training with both cable systems.
- Phase 3 Full-Sized Rack: 2 x 100kg weight stacks
- Phase 3 Short Rack: 2 x 90kg weight stacks
A 1:1 cable ratio means that the weight you feel on the handle is the same as the weight selected on the stack. 50kg of weight on the stack will generate 50kg of resistance in 1:1 setups, which is ideal for when you need to access heavier weights.
On a 2:1 setup, the weight you feel on the handle is half of what you’ve selected on the stack. 50kg of weight will generate 25kg of resistance in 2:1 setups, which makes it easier to progressively overload since you can graduate in 2.5kg increments rather than 5kg like you would on a 1:1 setup. Plus 2:1 cable setups run smoother, which is another reason to favour them for most lifts.
We’ve already written in depth about the benefits of each setup, but the conclusion is this: having both options available to you will always be preferable to a single one. That’s why these new releases use the blueprint that we perfected in our Phase 4 commercial line to bring 1:1 and 2:1 cables into the same rack. Think gym-quality performance, but at home.
Aluminium pulley wheels as standard
Over the last few years we’ve been introducing aluminium pulley wheels into more of our cable racks due to their superior performance over nylon wheels.
In the newest line of Phase 3, aluminium wheels come as standard. This means smoother lifts across your cable movements, extra durability and a more professional look to the rack.
It’s the small details like this that futureproof your equipment so that it remains a joy to train on for years to come.
As good as it gets
The new line of Phase 3 racks is as good as it gets in the home gym sector. The frame is constructed from 75 x 75 x 3mm powder-coated steel for an extremely durable build quality that looks the business, and the rack’s attachments are second to none. Included in your order are a smart pair of D-handles with knurled metal grips, J-hooks and spotter arms with branding plates, a lat pulldown seat with an additional pin below it to prevent unwanted movement, a low row footplate, landmine attachment and rear storage hooks to keep everything organised.
This is as well as the integrated, unweighted smith machine within the rack, which benefits from a premium knurled handle for added grip.
For our short rack, we’ve opted for a static multi-grip pull-up bar to save on height, while we’ve modelled the taller Phase 3 option on the adjustable setup that was so popular in our Phase 4 lineup.
Simply put, we’ve worked hard to bring these racks as close to our commercial-grade lineup as possible while keeping the price low for customers. We think you’ll be thrilled with the result.
