What you should know about neoprene dumbbells
Neoprene dumbbells are a favourite among people who are looking to ease themselves into the world of fitness. They come in a soft, comfortable neoprene coating that protects the weight inside and fits perfectly into a home setting. What’s more, they don’t have an odour like traditional rubber dumbbells.
Our neoprene dumbbells range from 1kg up to 10kg and are sold in pairs. Use them to build up strength and then consider investing in a pair of heavier hex dumbbells to continue progressing, or one of our adjustable dumbbells to give you even more weight options at a fraction of the price.
We’ve answered some common questions we get about neoprene dumbbells, but if our team can help further then don’t hesitate to reach out.
FAQ
01
What’s the difference between neoprene dumbbells and regular dumbbells?
Most dumbbells are made up of a stainless steel handle with rubber-encased cast iron weights on either side. These are great for most cases, but can feel a little industrial for people just learning the ropes about fitness and strength training.
Neoprene dumbbells, on the other hand, are made up of cast iron throughout that’s finished in a soft, grippy neoprene coating. This makes them perfect for beginners and those looking for a light set of weights to use at home.
02
What are the benefits of neoprene dumbbells?
Neoprene dumbbells are popular due to their soft, grippy finish. Some people find them more comfortable to hold than a traditional dumbbell, they suit a home’s aesthetic better and are a nice introduction to strength training.
They also don’t smell which is a key selling point. This might sound weird, but their rubber counterparts carry a slight odour with them. Neoprene dumbbells don’t, which is one reason why they’re so popular for home training.
03
What exercises can I do with neoprene dumbbells?
You can do all of the exercises with neoprene dumbbells that you would with a traditional rubber dumbbell. Some favourites that you’ll see people doing are shoulder press, bicep curls, lateral raises, dumbbell squats and floor press.
04
What weight of dumbbell should I buy?
While our neoprene dumbbells only go up to 10kg, it’s still important to get the weight that’s right for you. If you’re looking to tone your body, the 1-4kg range is probably where you should be looking. If your goal is to build muscle, then you’ll want to look more at the 5-10kg range.
To get an idea of your current strength level, fill a 1 litre bottle of water up and do some exercises with it. It’ll weigh 1kg. Does it feel heavy or light? Then, put several 1 litre water bottles in a bag following the same principle of 1l = 1kg and see how that feels. This will give you a decent understanding of your strength.
Once you have a number in your head, either pick up that weight pair or invest in a set of neoprene dumbbells to give yourself that extra bit of choice.
05
Are neoprene dumbbells suitable for beginners?
