Dumbbells should be one of the first things you think about when planning a home or commercial gym. Light weights can be used to rehab injuries and intensify cardio routines, while heavier weights are essential for building strength and muscle.
Hex rubber dumbbells are our most popular option by far. They’re made by encasing a cast iron core in a durable, high-quality rubber shell that protects both the dumbbell and your floor.
For beginners, you can’t go wrong with neoprene dumbbells. These feature a soft-touch neoprene coating that’s comfortable to handle, with the added benefit of being odour-free. This makes them a popular choice for people looking to train in the living room or in their bedroom.
Adjustable dumbbells can’t be beat when it comes to saving on cost and space. Our Elite Adjustable Dumbbells can replace up to 20 dumbbells in one. They’re not as sturdy as their fixed counterparts, so it’s important not to throw them down after a set.
Take a look through our range and see which dumbbell type suits you. We’ve answered some of your most common questions below, and our team is available every weekday to give you personalised advice.
01
What weight dumbbells should I buy?
Most people need three pairs: a medium weight you can lift for 8 to 12 reps, a light pair half that weight and a heavy pair that’s 50% more than your medium.
You can test your strength level by filling a 1L bottle up with water, which weighs about 1kg. Put a few of these in a bag and see how that feels to lift. Based on how challenging the bag feels with a few bottles inside, invest in a pair of dumbbells where you can comfortably perform 8-12 reps of some common exercises, like bicep curls.
This is your medium weight.
02
Can dumbbells be used for cardio?
Yes, you can hold a pair of dumbbells while performing cardio exercises like walking, jogging on the spot and punch-outs to intensify the workout.
Avoid going heavy here. Most people only need a pair of 1kg or 2kg dumbbells to add resistance to a cardio session.
03
What exercises can I do with dumbbells?
You can train your whole body with a pair of dumbbells, using them for arm exercises like bicep curls and tricep extensions as easily as you can for lower body movements, like lunges and weighted squats.

04
What dumbbells should I buy if I’m a beginner?
Neoprene dumbbells are most popular with beginners, since they’re comfortable to hold, only go up to 10kg and are designed for home training. You can store them under a bed or sofa when not in use, since they’re odourless and come in a protective neoprene coating.
05
Where can I store dumbbells?
We sell dumbbell storage racks to keep your weights organised. For small sets, our Phase 1 Vertical Rack is ideal, while our Phase 2 Three-Tier Storage Racks are made for larger weights and are commonly bought with full 5-30kg hex dumbbell sets.
That said, there’s nothing wrong with storing your dumbbells in the corner of a room or under the sofa. All that matters in our eyes is that you use them.
06
Do you sell dumbbell sets?
Yes, we sell a number of pre-made dumbbell sets to give you all the weight options you need in a single purchase. Our 5-30kg dumbbell set is the most popular, and is available in a traditional rubber finish or a slightly more affordable PVC finish.
07
Can I drop dumbbells after a set?
You can drop fixed dumbbells, but only on suitable gym flooring that can absorb the impact. You cannot drop adjustable dumbbells since the mechanism can be damaged by the impact.
08
What are dumbbells made of?
Our hex dumbbells are made from a cast iron core that’s encased in a high-quality rubber coating. The handles are made from stainless steel, and textured with a knurled grip for better handling.
Neoprene dumbbells go through a different process, where the weight is shaped from one piece of iron and then wrapped in the neoprene shell. As such, there isn’t a standardised handle size in neoprene dumbbells, since it increases as the weight gets heavier.
09
What’s the difference between fixed and adjustable dumbbells?
Fixed dumbbells provide a single, sturdy weight to train with, while adjustable dumbbells can be made heavier or lighter by changing the number of plates attached to the handle.
Adjustable dumbbells are more cost-effective and take up less space than their fixed counterparts, with our Elites ranging from 2kg to 40kg in 2kg increments, but they aren’t as robust and can’t be dropped safely.
10
Do you offer free delivery?
Yes, all orders over £250 qualify for free delivery. Please note that orders to Northern Ireland and certain areas of Scotland may incur additional delivery charges.
11
How long after ordering until I receive my dumbbells?
If you place your order before 12pm, your dumbbells will arrive on the next working day. The only exceptions to this are a) if you order a dumbbell over 32.5kg and b) if your order has 12 or more parcels in it. This is because we use a pallet for these orders which takes 3-5 working days through our pallet network.
If your delivery address is in Northern Ireland or the Scottish Highlands, standard delivery times will increase to two working days while pallets will arrive in 5-10 days.
12
How do I care for my dumbbells after they’ve arrived?
Ensure your dumbbells are kept in a temperature-controlled environment. Treat any imperfections on the handle with a small amount of WD-40 and address any blemishes on the rubber heads with silicone oil.
13
What’s the warranty on your dumbbells?
Our dumbbells come with a one-year warranty.
14
Can I return or exchange my dumbbells if they’re not suitable?
Yes, as long as the dumbbells are unused, in their original packaging and returned within 30 days.
